Township History
Stillwater Township was first organized in 1858 and, at the time, nearly surrounded the city of Stillwater, Minnesota. Over time, annexation by the city of Stillwater has slowly subtracted land from the township, so that its geography now is almost entirely north of the city limits of Stillwater.
The first settlers ventured into Stillwater Township in the 1840s and included names such as William Boutwell, Joseph Brown, Jacob Fisher, Alexander Wilcox and William Rutherford.
